The Steelers have activated RB Le’Veon Bell to the 53-man roster today after serving his 3-game suspension. To make room for Bell, the team waived RB Daryl Richardson. Richardson had a stellar preseason this year after being signed to a Reserve/Future contract in January. Although he was active for the 1st three games of the regular season, Richardson only had 2 carries for 7 yards.
The Steelers had a roster exemption for Bell, but it expired at 4 PM this afternoon. Bell has not played a meaningful game since last year’s November 1 matchup with the Bengals when his was lost for the season with a knee injury. In his only action of the preseason against the Saints, Bell looked sharp and it appears that his knee injury is behind him.
It will be interesting to see if Richardson clears waivers. If he does, look for the Steelers to sign him to their practice squad.
