Well, it’s already that time again. College football teams across the country are finishing their winter workout programs and heading back onto the field to play their annual spring games. The Panthers held their game this past Saturday, and with the potential they showed last year during the season, this could be a very big year for coach Pat Narduzzi, as he enters his second season with the team.
Team Dorsett (Blue) defeated Team Cavanaugh (Gold) 19 – 17 and were led Quandree Henderson, who is a junior receiver this year. Henderson rushed for 107 yards on 4 carries, including a 64 yard touchdown. Also on the Blue team, Manny Stocker threw for 166 yards and an interception. The redshirt senior is a new quarterback for the team, as he was a receiver for the Panthers a year ago. Last years standout running back, RS Sophomore Qadree Ollison, finished with 25 yards and a touchdown for the Blue squad. For Gold, starting quarterback Nate Peterman completed 50% of his passes for 186 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jester Weah had 3 catches for 102 yards, including a 47 yard reception.
On the defensive side of the ball, Elijah Zeise was a dominant force for team Team Cavanaugh. He had 8 solo tackles, as well as a tackle for a loss. Other notable defensive performances in this game were ACC player of the year Jordan Whitehead with 7 total tackles and a tackle for a loss. Blue teams Reggie Mitchell ended the game with 5 tackles of his own.
It looks as though they are looking to pickup where they left off a little more than halfway through last season, where it looked like they would be in close contention for the ACC coastal title. This years Panthers squad looks to be led by Nate Peterman and a group of talent that showed they can be a force in the always competitive ACC conference. The season is a long ways away, but this game and many more practices ahead will be getting them ready to face off against Villanova on September 3rd at Heinz Field.
