Jeff Passan first broke the story via twitter that the Pittsburgh Pirates have extended Gregory Polanco through at least the 2021 season.
This is a move the Pirates have tried to get done for the past 3 offseasons. The deal is for 5 years with two club options. That means that the Pirates have Polanco under team control until the end of the 2023 season. The deal is reported to be for $35M guaranteed. Ken Rosanthal added that the deal could push over $60M if both option years are exercised.
The Pirates now have both Starling Marte and Polanco signed through the 2021 season. The next question for the Pirates to answer in regards to the outfield is whether or not Andrew McCutchen will be joining them through that time. The answer to that question is likely to come in two or three years.
